The first State of Black Oakland held Saturday, March 28th, 2015 at historic Geoffrey’s Inner Circle was an unqualified success. With over 500 Black community members in attendance, the day was a stirring reminder of our collective power. It was beautiful to see families showing up together, some three generations deep. We had everyone from toddlers to elders holding space together.

CRC salutes MXGM for convening the assembly, as well as all of the organizations and individuals who worked together to make the State of Black Oakland not only possible, but profound. We at CRC see SOBO as the first step on a long road to building Black power and self determination, and look forward to continuing to build with our SOBO family.
